Frequently Asked Questions

Q. At what age can I regsister my child for
full time nursery care?

A. You can register your child at any time. We are fully Ofsted registered at each of our sites to care for your child from 2 months of age to school age in the Nursery and older in the school holiday kids camps.

Q. Do you accept childcare vouchers?

A. Yes we do. Accor, Busy Bees and most other recognised vouchers. Please contact us prior to starting to pay via this method so that we can adjust our payment matrix.

Q. How do I pay the Nursery fees?

A. Our preferred method of payment is via monthly direct debit or childcare vouchers. You may also pay via credit/debit card or PayPal. Fees are calculated for 50 weeks a year and divided into 12 equal monthly payments. This is illustrated in the about us menu on this website. Weekly cash payments can be made at the discretion of the Nursery Manager.

Q. How many staff are qualified?

A. The majority of staff hold a recognised childcare qualification or will be undergoing childcare training. Any unqualified staff will have good childcare knowledge and experience and will be mentored by our experienced and qualified staff. Regular First Aid and child protection training is undertaken by all childcare staff as well as continuous professional development.

Q. What are the adult to child ratios?

A. The minimum ratios are 0-2 years x 1 adult for every 3 children. 2-3 years x 1 adult for every 4 children and 3-5 years x 1 adult to every 8 children. As these are the minimum ratios, we quite often have a much higher adult to child ratio.

Q. What activities will my child do at Nursery and creche?

A. The nursery day is full and varied with lots of fun, imaginitive play. As your child progresses to the pre-school there is more structure for learning and we follow the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum. Our emphasis is still on creating a fun learning environment as we feel this is the best way for children to learn..

Q. Do all the children stay together?

A. We have different age group categories. Teddybears are our babies and toddlers, Sunshines are the 2-3's and Rainbows are the pre-school children aged 3-5. There may be some times during the day when groups come together e.g. mealtimes.

Q. How do I know my child is safe with you?

A. Entry to the Nursery is via a secure security locked door. Children will only ever be released to those with permission to collect who are known to the nursery. In the event of an emergency and someone not known to the nursery collecting, we will request a security password that you have supplied and only with your permission will we let this person take your child..

Q. Are the Managers Super Numary?

A. Yes they are. Our Managers are there to provide support to the team as and when required. This allows for unexpected emergencies to be catered for without disruption.

Q. How does drop off and collection work?

A.When you come in you will be asked to sign your child in and out of the Nursery. This then hands over responsibility for the care and welfare of your child to us for their time at Nursery on that day.

Q. Can anybody else collect my child?

A.If anyone other than the designated person known to the Nursery is to collect your child please inform the manager. Proof of identity and a password known to First Steps and the designated carer will be required on arrival.
